Obituary

Delbert Junior Hatchett was born June 25, 1942, in Owensboro, KY to the late Nicholas Hatchett and Idella Hanley Hatchett. He was also preceded in death by his sister Sally Butler and daughter Pamela Denise Hatchett. He departed this life on March 14, 2024, while reading his Bible (John 6) and Sunday School lesson: a fine example of his devotion to the Lord and the Word. He was a devout man of God and committed member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. Although he did not serve for the accolades, he received many from his church. Delbert served in the military as a Sergeant of the United States Army. He not only received accolades from his church, but also many awards and medals while serving his country prior to his honorable discharge. He continued to work at the Armory and as a National Guard reservist until his retirement. Aside from his Army uniform and fatigues, Delbert was quite the dresser. He was often seen in nice three-piece suits or coordinating pant sets, Kangol hats, a pocket watch and Stacy Adams shoes. He was also a great cook, especially barbecue on the grill. Delbert loved music, especially music of the 70's and was a good singer as well. He is survived by his daughters; Angela Maria Hatchett (St Louis, MO), Carolyn Yvonne Hatchett (St Louis, MO), Michele Patrice Miller (Hamilton, OH), Veronica Elaine McBride (Owensboro, KY) and Stephanie Deline Hatchett (Louisville, KY); one son, Tommy Armstrong, Sr. (San Antonio, TX); 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a special niece and nephew; Bonnie Shelton and Donald Shelton; and a host of additional nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
