Doris Jean Howard (nee Gilbert) passed away peacefully on April 17th, 2024, in Owensboro, Kentucky, at the age of 87. She was born on December 31st, 1936, in Owensboro, Kentucky. Doris was a loving and caring woman who always had a smile on her face. She cherished her children and grandchildren deeply. Doris was well-known throughout her neighborhood because she could be seen walking daily. Doris was a longtime employee at Owensboro Daviess County Hospital in the housekeeping department. She loved watching her shows, especially WWE Wrestling. She was preceded in death by her mother Marjorie Leak, her father, John L. Leak, and her husband William E. Howard. Doris is survived by her four children, James Lovell (Theresa) Howard of Detroit, Michigan, Tracy Howard, Scott Howard, both of Owensboro, and Stacy Ann Gilbert. She is also survived by her three grandchildren: Simone, Nolan, and Elijah. A gathering of family and friends to honor Doris' life will be held from noon until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at McFarland Funeral Home, 1001 W 5th St, Owensboro, KY 42301.
