Celebrating the Life of Elois Pope Murphy Elois Pope Murphy, aged 97, departed this life on May 21, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and unwavering kindness. Born on April 26, 1928, in Utica, KY, to Laura Anna Kelly and Booker Pope, Elois embraced life with open arms and a compassionate heart. From a young age, Elois found strength and purpose in her faith, professing her hope in Christ at just nine years old. She became a devoted member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in 1937 under the leadership of Reverend S C Green, actively contributing to the Church Choir and Missionary Board. Even when health challenges kept her homebound, she continued to worship virtually, never losing her connection to the church she cherished. Elois was known for her warmth and generosity, embracing everyone she met as if they were family. Whether lending a helping hand, offering words of wisdom, or simply sharing in life's joys, she was a pillar of strength to those around her. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband William Andrew Murphy; three grandchildren Shawna Murphy, Chez Wilford, and Demi Williams; her siblings Robert, Jimmy, Charles, Roy, Mark, Marnell, Joyce Dean, Marva, and Carol; and two sons-in-law Rudell Miller and Stephen Maddox. Elois leaves behind a large and loving family, including her nine children Joanna Miller, Phillip (Sharon) Murphy, Chequita Stevenson, Fong (Allen) Maddox, Joseph (Tabitha) Murphy, Kevin Deon (Terri) Murphy of Bowling Green KY, William Darmell (Nadine) Murphy, Ada Thames (Erman), and Wonet (Randy) Taylor; 26 grandchildren Jackie (Jerome) Brown, Tanya Carter, Cerita (Earl) Carter of Henderson KY, Sher-Rhee Wimsatt, Audwin (Glendell) Miller, Phillippe (Michelle) Murphy, Ramona (Calvin) Murphy, Sheretha (Meechie) Stevenson, Darrell (Beth) Murphy, Rocky (Britney) Maddox, Julius (Heaven) Maddox, Shawntenaye (Donata) Murphy, Danayia Douglas, Brittney (Kaitlynn) McHenry, Auvie Murphy, Whitney (Bruce) Harris, Shalethia (Paris) Lipsey, Jostylle Johnson, Lachelle (Kevin) Clark, Fantasia (Robert) Leblanc, Darnell Martin, Mariah Murphy, Monesha (Donny) Murphy, Ericka Thames Quarles, Dondra Thames, and Denisha (Devon) Williams; 60 great-grandchildren; 37 great-great-grandchildren; one bonus daughter Latoya Carbon; and four bonus sons Robert Sawyer, Reggie Osborne, Donny Koger, and Jacque Williams. Her memory will also live on through a cherished lifelong friend, Merdis Jones, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends who were touched by her kindness. Though Elois has journeyed beyond this world, her legacy remains—a testament to a life well-lived, filled with faith, family, and an enduring spirit of love. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered, her light continuing to shine in the hearts of those who knew her. A celebration of life for Elois will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday May 31, 2025 at Fourth Street Baptist Church, 821 W 4th St, Owensboro, KY 42301 with her home church pastor Rev Dr Jeremiah Parks officiating and Rev Larry D Lewis of Zion Baptist Church as Eulogist. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday May 30, 2025 at McFarland Funeral Home, 1001 W 5th St, Owensboro, KY 42301. A committal service and burial will follow the funeral at Rosehill & Elmwood Cemetery, 1300 Old Hartford Rd, Owensboro, KY 42303.
