Obituary

In Loving Memory of Gwendolyn G. Swanagan September 13, 1953 – September 2, 2025 Gwendolyn G. Swanagan peacefully transitioned on September 2, 2025, going home to be with the Lord. Born on September 13, 1953, to the late Jesstine Chaney and Crawford Wales, Gwendolyn lived a life rooted in faith, family, and love. A proud graduate of Breckenridge County High School in Harned, Kentucky, Class of 1971, Gwendolyn carried her education into a life of service and devotion. She was an active and faithful member of her church, where she found joy and strength in gospel music and fellowship. Gwendolyn cherished her family deeply and was a source of unwavering love and support to those around her. Her warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit touched many lives. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Everett Swanagan; her parents; her grandparents, Elizabeth and Jesse Poole; and her brother, Gary Wales. Gwendolyn leaves behind a legacy of love through her sister, Theresa (Eric) Taylor of Whites Creek, TN; her children, Valerie (Billy) Kavanaugh and Tornette Wales of Louisville, KY, Shante Wales of Frankfort, KY, Timothy Wales of Owensboro, KY, and DeAnthony (Katie) Walton; grandchildren, Daquanette Richardson, DaBrielle Richardson, Robert Jones, Jr., Timothy Hinton, Amari R. Wales, Zahriyah Wales, Amiya Wales, Zavien Wales, Avion Wales, Peyton Wales, Summer R. Barnes, Aiden Walton, Addison Walton, and Ka'laysia Sanders. She was also blessed with one great-granddaughter, Aria McKinzie. Her lifelong friend, Betty McCreary, held a special place in her heart. Gwendolyn's presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Gwendolyn G. Swanagan will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Asbury United Methodist Church 2711 Cravens Avenue, Owensboro, KY • Eulogist: Robert Young of Louisville • Officiant: Pastor DeMarcus Curry Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church and continue until the time of service.
