Lee "Leroy "Simmons 78, of Owensboro departed this life on Friday November 14, 2014 at Owensboro Center Nursing Home. He was born in Owensboro to the late Harry Simmons and Ella Sue Newton. He worked for Harold's Dry Cleaning for many years. Roy was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church where he accepted Christ at an early age, and remained a faithful member until declining health. Leroy loved his church and the late Pastor Rev. R.L. McFarland. He was a past supervisor over the kitchen of the church, also a former senior choir member and served on the usher board until declining health, formerly serving as announcement clerk for many years. His wife; Mary Ruth Simmons preceded him in death in 1995, also one son; Roger Simmons in 1989. Mr. Simmons leaves to cherish his memories and mourn his passing, one son; Leroy Simmons, three grand-daughters; Tiara, Kiarra, Ieasha, three great-grand sons; Dontariw, Tymarius, Torin, two great-granddaughters; JaShada, Janiyah, one sister; Bessie Mae Newton, a host of nieces ,nephews ,cousins ,and friends.
