Lela Mae Johnson, 95, of Owensboro departed this life on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Twin Rivers Nursing Home. She was the oldest member of Fourth Street Baptist Church. In her early senior years at her church, she was a member of the women's Sunday School class, senior choir, King's Daughters, Sunbeam Circle, and a Volunteer Culinary worker until her health declined. She was a former member of The VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Lela Johnson was a very caring and artistic person. She loved to sew and periodically would tackle an upholstery project. She enjoyed shopping, baking, and painting her house (interior); these were some of her favorite hobbies along with long conversations. Lela was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Johnson Sr., one son, Alfred Johnson Jr., one sister, Priscilla Mae Beason and son-in-law, Whaylon Coleman Sr. She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memories, one daughter, Birdie Mae Johnson Coleman; five grandchildren Danny (Mallory) Dunn, Whaylon (Sylvia) Coleman Jr., Giselle Wimsatt, Anthony B. "Nardy" Hanley and Mia (Walter) Watkins; several great -grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren, and a host cousins, family and friends
