Margaret D. Owen, 93, of Owensboro, departed this life on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Heartford House. She was born in Livermore, Kentucky. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Oden and Willie Gregory, she also was preceded in death by her husband, Winston Owen; one son, James "Snookie" Owen; one grandson, Christopher Owen; one brother, J.C. Mitchell. She was retired from the Patrick E. Wright Family. Margaret was a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of Amaranth Chapter # 46 Order of Eastern Star. Margaret was a former member of Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Owensboro for more then sixty years, where she served as a stewardess and a member of the M.L. Owsley Missionary Society. She was a member of the ladies' auxiliary of the Benjamin Davis VFW Post # 5482 and Post # 696.Margaret was known for her passion to cook and especially her famous chess pies. She leaves to mourn the loss of her passing and cherish her memories, two sons, Larry "Chick " (Nena) Owen and Byron Winston Owen; four daughters, Brenda Owen Riley, Margaret Sue (Monroe) Griffith, Betty O Payton, and Patricia Owen Curry, one special niece, Loretta(Eugene) Deal ; one special nephew, Charles Doug ( Alvirta ) Taylor; two special friends, Bernice Thompson and Patsy Kelly; 18 grandchildren, Rachael Riley, Kenny Riley, Denise Griffith, Monroe Griffith Jr., Danny Griffith, Marshall Griffith, Derek Owen, Larry Owen Jr., Lorraine Sturgeon, Wesley Lewis, Lamar Owen, Dr. Heather Owen-Rankin, Nakeshia Norris, Bryson Lowe, Cameron Owen, Brittni Owen, Byron Owen Jr., Jamie Owen; 56 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces , nephews, cousins and friends. Eastern Stars Services will be at 7:30 PM Tuesday at the church.
