Pearlene Rates Baughman, 94, was born in Daviess County, Kentucky May 30, 1930 to the late Virginia McClaren Rates and Robert Rates. God called mama home June 06th, 2024 at 6:20 p.m. at Vista Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lewisville, Texas. On June 26, 1954, she was united in marriage to George Baughman of Lexington, KY. He preceded her in death in 1983. Three children, Ty, Daryl, and Denise were born to this union. Mom, known affectionately in Texas as Miss "B", was a 1948 graduate of Western High School in Owensboro, Ky. She loved and accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at an early age and was a member of Fourth Street Baptist Church for many years, before moving to Texas in 2010 to live out her remaining years near her son Ty Baughman, and his spouse Jannie. She loved singing, painting, and latch hook rugs. Mom was an amazing cook. Our family always enjoyed eating her cooking after Sunday church services, and especially during the holidays. Mom also helped dad run their restaurant for several years in Owensboro's Baptist Town community. She was the main cook. Everyone loved her chili and malt milkshakes. Mom's greatest joy manifested with her three children Ty, Daryl, and Denise. She dedicated much of her life to attending their band concerts, sporting events, and Boy Scout activities. She also provided money and venues to support our local R&B band when needed. There was nothing that mom wouldn't do to support the needs of her children. Christmas was amazing around our house as she ensured there would be gifts for everyone and cookies for Santa. Although she didn't have a college education, mom was wise to vehemently emphasize the importance of a college education with her children throughout their upbringing. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Daryl Baughman, a granddaughter Michelle Baughman Pounds, and a step-grandson Steveland Judkins She leaves behind to cherish memories and celebrate her life today children Ty (Jannie) Baughman and Denise Baughman Murphy; grandchildren Charlanda (Shawn) Spragan, Amber Spragan, Darrin Baughman; great-grandchildren Ny'Shawn Copeland, Nysariah Copeland, Elijah Thornwell; and step-grandson Torsie Judkins.
