Obituary

In Loving Memory of Robert Louis Hardy, Sr. January 29, 1965 – September 2, 2025 On Tuesday morning, September 2, 2025, Robert Louis Hardy, Sr. was called home to meet his Creator while under the compassionate care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky at their Heartford House facility. Born on January 29, 1965, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Robert was the beloved son of the late James and Edwina Hardy. After graduating high school, he briefly served in the U.S. Military before dedicating many years of service as a custodian at the former Executive Inn. Robert was a proud and faithful member of the Owensboro Men's Mass Community Choir, always showing up to sing with heart and purpose. He found joy in gardening at home and serving on the culinary committee at Mount Calvary Baptist Church. With music blasting and a smile on his face, Robert—affectionately known as "Yo-yo" and "Frog"—danced like no one was watching. He was a true people-person, never meeting a stranger and never missing an opportunity to help someone in need. Robert loved his children deeply and held a special fondness for his former mother-in-law. Above all, he cherished his lifelong friend and caregiver, Donnie Tyler, who cared for him with unwavering devotion for over 30 years. In Yo-yo's eyes, Donnie could do no wrong. The Tyler family also held a special place in Robert's heart, becoming like family to him. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his sister Lisa Hardy and his brother Stefan Hardy. He leaves to mourn his passing: his guardian, best friend, and caregiver Donnie Tyler; his children James, Jonathan, Robert, and Ashley Hardy; siblings Carmilla, Jamesetta, James Jr., Stephanie, Sandra, Larry, Gary, Rochelle, and Pauline; several grandchildren; a host of relatives and friends; and his bonus brother Greg Hartsough and wife Susan. A funeral service to honor Robert's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 507 Plum Street, Owensboro, KY, with Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Parks officiating. Burial will follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens, with Military Honors provided by VFW Post 696. Visitation and viewing will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 12, at McFarland Funeral Home, 1001 W 5th Street, Owensboro, KY 42301.
