On February 11, 2023, around 5:50 pm, I heard the voice of my heavenly Father call out, "Sidney Taylor Jackson, Sr., well done my good and faithful servant. It's time for your stay on earth to end. Your battle is over, it is time for your transition from this earthly body. Let's go from this place you called home for 73 years." That magnificent voice continued, "It was on June 28, 1949, when your loving parents, Hardin Sidney, and Argatha Higgs Jackson, received their blessing, and in their obedience to my word, raised you on their farm on Crane Pond Road in Pleasant Ridge, KY. But now, it's time to say 'good-bye' to your loving family and friends surrounding you and come on home. You have earned your wings." As a young lad, I confessed my love for Christ, and studied God's words while attending our family church, Pleasant Point Missionary Baptist Church. While at Pleasant Point I was ordained as a Deacon. Some years later I became a founding and charter member of Cedar Street Missionary Baptist Church, where I continued to devote my love to the Lord. At Cedar Street my love of the gospel grew more and more each day as I shared my understanding and knowledge of the bible. I enjoyed my service of the Lord as the Adult Sunday School class teacher, a trustee, and Chairman of the Deacon Board. I received my primary education in the Daviess County school system, graduating with the DCHS Class of 1967. After high school, I continued my studies at Kentucky Wesleyan College. After a couple of years of college, I enlisted in the United States Navy in 1969, where I served as a Seaman 2500, during the Vietnam War. I served aboard the USS Conyngham DDG-17, a guided missile armed destroyer, as a Weapons and Ships Office Yeoman. I received several accommodations and also a recommendation to attend officer candidate school. I passed on this opportunity and took my honorable discharge in 1980 as a Seaman E-4. I've worked hard my entire life. My work ethic was instilled under the watchful, caring gaze of my father early in life as I started as a farm hand on the family tobacco farm. I later worked as a bagger for A&P Grocery as a young man at the age of 15. I was able to develop many skills along the way. Utilizing these skills I worked with chemicals, in material manufacturing, conglomerates, and in the aluminum industry for such companies as Roi Tan Cigars, General Electric, W.R. Grace and National Southwire Aluminum. I ended my work career in 2006, after 22 years of service with Alcoa Aluminum, Warrick Operation. Along the way I found time to operate as the Manager of my Mother's Tots 'N Cuddlers Day Care Center. I've owned and maintained rental properties. I even owned a janitorial cleaning service known as Sid's Cleaning for over 5 years. Needless to say, I was never afraid of work. I always wanted to and would do anything to provide for my family. Now, my earthly trip has concluded, my last flight is soaring high to the heavens to join my parents, my sisters, Hazel A. West and Hettie C. Cole, my nephews Donald West, Jr., and Vance West, two of my brothers-in-law, Donald "Bud" West, Sr., and Theodore Carter, and most recently my sister-in-law Anita L. Jackson. To my dear family, my devoted and loving wife of 38 years, LeRae Anita; my sons Sidney T. Jackson, Jr., Ryan L. Jackson (Bonnie) and D. Mario Hall, Jr; my grandchildren, Tyaira T. Jackson, Auriana R. Hall, Dominic M. Hall and Harper L. Jackson and great-grand furs Benji and Bustelo; my siblings Atha M. Carter, Michael L. Jackson, and Margaret F. Haynes; my loving aunt, Dova Tinsley, along with my many host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends, remember my love for you and continue to love each other, for one day our paths will cross again. I am so thankful that the Lord blessed me with the care of my faithful caregivers, Phyllis Siddon, owner of Feel the Love Home Health Care Agency; my TV buddy Joe Pence; and, my girl, CNA Sandy Pierce of Home Instead. Thank you for your devotion and dedication to my well-being. A special "Thank You" to my first-born granddaughter, Tyaira. Your unselfishness and sacrifice have not gone unnoticed. To my cousin Teresa Jackson, "Thank You" for your care and tenderness you have shown during this time. You all were God sent and my respect for you is unmeasured. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. "John 3:16 As I close, I want to remind you all to be sure to stop by for your final tour of Big Red, my 1997 Chevrolet truck. He too, has been decommissioned. There will be a coffee can left on his tailgate, to collect the entry fee, which has been reduced from 25¢ to 10¢. My collection of duct tape sticks will be auctioned off later. I'm all dressed out with my final orders for this is not my home anymore. I am ready to board the train, I am heaven bound. Thank you, Lord Jesus, here I am. With love, Sidney Taylor Jackson, Sr. aka, Big Sid, Sid the Kid with his black lid on, Earth Angel
